About NYYM's LGBTQ Community

NYYM's LGBTQ community has no formal structure in the yearly meeting's organization, but does often meet for worship at our Summer Sessions held in late July at Silver Bay YMCA in Silver Bay, New York.

NYYM Discernment Regarding Friends United Meeting's Personnel Policy

Because of its personnel policy, New York Yearly Meeting is in ongoing discernment regarding its relationship with Friends United Meeting (FUM), a Quaker denominational organization of which the yearly meeting has been a member for more than a hundred years.

FUM's personnel policy is considered by many Friends to be de facto discrimination against LGBTQ Friends in its hiring practices.

As a result, some meetings in New York Yearly Meeting question the yearly meeting's support for and membership in FUM. Thus the yearly meeting as a body is seeking unity about what our relationship with FUM should be.

Visit our web pages on this concern, which have resources regarding this process of discernment.
